los angeles low vision resourcesWe love helping the people of SoCal overcome their struggles with low vision with our products and services, but it doesn’t stop there! SoCal Low Vision is full of a community of doctors, volunteers, and students who support and encourage those with low vision.

We want to do more than just send you off with a quality product, we want to connect you with a wealth of resources as well. Check out some of these places below:

National Resources

  • Enhanced Vision – Enhanced Vision is a leading developer of assistive technology for the visually impaired including Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts, Retinitis Pigementosa and Diabetic Retinopathy. Low vision assistive technology enables people to read, write and fully participate in life.

Local Resources

  • Loew Vision Rehabilitation Institute – Loew Vision Rehabilitation Institute provides comprehensive low vision care including examinations using the latest techniques and equipment, occupational therapy and psychosocial services to assist children and adults maximize their usable vision. We have a low vision store and the latest technology on display.
  • Sight Savers America – Serving some 30,000 children every year, Sight Savers works to coordinate comprehensive eye care services for eligible children and to provide vision aids to the severely vision impaired, regardless of their ability to pay. Sight Savers America is dedicated to ensuring they have what they need to see more clearly and to succeed in school and at home.
  • The Center for the Partially Sighted – Offering optometry services, counseling, rehabilitation services, and a storefront, the Center for the Partially Sighted offers everything you need to manage your everyday life despite your low vision.
  • Braille Institute – The Braille Institute is committed to excellence in providing support to the blind and those with low vision. This includes talking books and Braille print publications, adult rehabilitation programs, child development for infants through age five, and literacy programs.
  • Southern California College of Optometry – Priding itself on being “more than just a collection of buildings,” the Southern California College of Optometry is a private, nonprofit, fully accredited four-year professional college dedicated to creating and educating tomorrow’s vision professionals, today. Their mission is to ensure that those with low vision have the best and most compassionate medical care available.
  • U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs – For those who have served their country, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs is there to serve you. If you struggle with low vision, the VA will assist you with medical care, rehabilitation services, and with finding the resources you need for products that may assist and allow you to be as independent as possible.
  • California Department of Rehabilitation – Committed to fighting for services and advocacy to result in fair and equitable employment for all regardless of disability is the mission of The California Department of Rehabilitation. If you have employment issues because of your low vision or feel you’ve been discriminated against unfairly because of your visual impairment, the California Department of Rehabilitation may be able to help.
  • California School for the Blind – Offering a wide range of classes for all those who are visually impaired, the California School for the Blind includes short courses, middle school and prep classes, and transitional classes for those ready to leave the school and lead full, independent lives. They also offer a full assessment program to ensure they are servicing the needs of all their students properly no matter the level of their disability and according to their educational needs.
  • Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired – Enriching the lives of the blind and visually impaired and ensuring they have the most enjoyment possible despite their limitations is the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. With regular activities planned and a full social calendar, you’ll find everything you need at CBVI to enjoy yourself no matter your struggles with low vision.
  • Jules Stein Eye Institute – Established in 1966, the Jules Stein Eye Institute represents the culmination of a dream shared by ophthalmologist, businessman and philanthropist Dr. Jules Stein and his wife Doris, of creating a world-renowned center dedicated to the preservation of vision and the prevention of blindness. The Institute’s comprehensive programs for the care of patients with eye disorders, research in the vision sciences, education in the field of ophthalmology and outreach to the community, coupled with its state-of-the art facilities, have brought national and international recognition to the Institute and UCLA.
